GELILA BEKELE







Gelila Bekele is a model and documentary filmmaker who began her modeling  career in 2006. She has appeared in leading magazines and beauty campaigns.  Gelila is a passionate advocate for the rights of young girls, emphasizing the  importance of equal opportunities, essential needs, and education. Her mission to raise awareness of overlooked global issues led her to  documentary filmmaking, and she founded Bekele Films, a production company  dedicated to highlighting human stories and global concerns through storytelling. 

Her recent films include "Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story" (Director, 2023),  available on Amazon Prime; "Mai: Life is Not Honey" (Director), which  premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019; and "Anbessa" (Executive  Producer), which had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2018. She  also directed the short film "The Model Activists" in 2017.  In addition to her work in film, Gelila authored "Guzo!" (2018), a book that  documents the daily lives of native Ethiopians, focusing on their customs,  cultural traditions, and dwellings.
